THUNDERBLENDER

is a trio led by Sam Comerford.

Awarded the "Toots Thielemans Award", Thunderblender is a Brussels based jazz/improv trio led by Sam Comerford. It combines adventurous free improvisation, beautiful moments and heavy grooves, tied together in long-form compositions inspired by artists like Tim Berne and Henry Threadgill. It features three of the most exciting young musicians on the European scene. At the Concours Tremplin d'Avignon 2017, Sam was awarded the prize for best instrumentalist. 

Thunderblender will release their debut EP on Italian label Honolulu Records in October 2017.

Sam Comerford (IE) - tenor and bass saxophone, compositions

Sam plays tenor and bass sax in groups such as Aerie, Umbra, Insufficient Funs, ODIL and Eve Beuvens' Heptatomic. He has represented Ireland twice at the 12 Points festival, and for two years in the European Saxophone Ensemble.

Hendrik Lasure (BE) - piano

At 20 years old, Hendrik has drawn critical acclaim as one of the most exciting pianists of his generation. He plays piano and synthesiser in the award winning duo SCHNTZL, who released their debut album on De Werf records in 2016.

Jens Bouttery (BE) - drums, bass synth

One of the most in demand drummers inside and outside Belgium, Jens plays in groups ranging from jazz and pop to experimental theatre, such as Jens Maurits Orchestra, Les Chroniques de l'Inutile, Geroezemoes, Llop and Jef Neve's "Spirit Control". Co-founder of new Brussels label ~suite.
